South Carolina-based Continental Tire is voluntarily recalling about 1,700 motorcycle tires. The ContiMotion tires were often used for the rear wheels of the Honda Gold Wing 1800, considered one of the most luxurious motorcycles on the market.

Reasons for the Recall

Although no accidents or injuries have been reported, Continental believes there is the chance these tires may have uneven wear, groove cracking and decreased inflation pressure. When tires lose inflation, a driver may be unable to control the motorcycle, which could cause a crash.

The tires in Continental’s recall program were sold in the 2011 and 2012 replacement markets. Most of these tires were purchased in the United States, but other regions acquired smaller quantities as well.

The affected tires can be identified through the Department of Transportation serial numbers that range from H60LJJE5110 through H60LJJE3811.

Currently, Continental is in contact with all of its motorcycle tire distributors and dealers to find customers who bought the defective tires. Every consumer Continental reaches will be informed about how to participate in the voluntary recall.

All buyers of the ContiMotion MC are encouraged to visit Continental’s website for more information.
