Attorney Matt King handles personal injury and workers’ compensation cases in Joye Law Firm’s Myrtle Beach office.
Matt understands that people who turn to Joye Law Firm for help have had their lives disrupted by serious accidents and injuries. The injured individual may be unable to work because of the injuries and be dealing with financial stress.
“An accident is not something anybody wants to deal with,” Matt says. “People are anxious to get it off their plate and get things moving forward. My job is to let people know that we can take the burden from them.”
Matt recognizes the importance of listening to clients and understanding each person’s individual needs and goals.
“Everybody has their own story,” he says. “It’s important to really listen to each person’s story. Everybody has something that makes their case unique that you need to focus on.”
He knows that workers who have been injured in workplace accidents would much rather be at work than having to cope with injuries and obtain workers’ compensation benefits. “The fact that they got hurt is hard for them to deal with,” he says.
Matt seeks to put people at ease and give them a sense of confidence and well-being that the law firm can help in addressing their needs.
“If I’m able to deal with the insurance company for them and make their situation easier, that is extremely satisfying.”
Matt grew up in Myrtle Beach. He has seen the coastal community grow from a small town to a leading vacation destination.
“It still has a small town feel to it that makes it appealing,” he says.
Matt received his undergraduate degree from the University of South Carolina. He worked as a paralegal for a Myrtle Beach law firm for more than decade before enrolling at Charleston School of Law. He graduated from Charleston School of Law with honors.
As a law student, Matt was selected as a Presidential Scholar, a Legal Writing Fellow, a Library Research Fellow and received four CALI Excellence for the Future Awards, which recognize outstanding law students.
Matt was a member of Phi Delta Phi, a prestigious legal fraternity, and was recognized upon graduation for Outstanding Pro Bono Service for performing more than three times the required amount of public service hours.
He became a member of the South Carolina Bar in 2020.
In his spare time, Matt enjoys watching movies with his wife. He also is an avid sports fan and follows the Atlanta Falcons and NASCAR.
