Meet Sarah Khouri

Sarah Khouri is an attorney at Joye Law Firm who helps injured workers and their families navigate South Carolina’s workers’ compensation system. She helps those whose claims have been wrongly denied seek the full benefits available by law.

“Most people don’t really know how to navigate the workers’ comp system in South Carolina,” Sarah says. “They need assistance. Some people come to us because they have been completely denied any kind of workers’ compensation benefits. It’s my role to make sure they get the medical benefits and other worker’s compensation benefits they are entitled to by law.”

"I contacted the law firm, because I was injured at work. Joye Law Firm was very professional answered all questions and kept me informed of what was going on. I would highly recommend Joye Law Firm to anybody that is dealing with an injury at work. Sarah khouri and her staff were awesome!"
-Patty, Actual Client

Before joining Joye Law Firm, Sarah worked for a defense firm that represented insurance companies in workers’ compensation cases. That experience helps her see workers’ compensation cases from all sides. She says that employers and insurance carriers that administer workers’ compensation insurance are not necessarily looking out for injured employees’ best interests, as far as medical treatment and time off work.

What Is the Most Satisfying Aspect of Being a Workers’ Comp Lawyer?

When standing up for workers who have been injured in the workplace, Sarah uses the insights and knowledge she gained from her previous legal work to the advantage of her clients.

“I know the way the insurance companies are looking at the case,” she says. I anticipate their next move before they make it.”

Sarah said it is much more gratifying to assist injured people who need help than to defend insurance companies to help them save money.

“It does feel a lot more rewarding to be on the side of the little guy rather than the big corporation,” she says.

Sarah’s Background and Professional Activities

Sarah grew up in the Midlands area of South Carolina. As a child, she wanted to grow up to be an attorney.

“I decided at a young age that I wanted to be a lawyer,” she says. “I was a member of the debate team in high school and went to a national youth leadership conference on the law in high school.”

She graduated from the College of Charleston with a bachelor’s degree in political science. She graduated from the University of South Carolina School of Law where she was a member of the Mock Trial team and the legal fraternity Phi Delta Phi.

Outside the office, she enjoys playing in a tennis league, spending time with her family, traveling, watching movies and playing with her Goldendoodle named Henry.
