Meet Randell Croft Stoney III

I handle personal injury cases primarily, with many automobile and truck accident claims. I do additional personal injury on the premises side, for example slip-and-fall actions.

When clients come to see me, it’s usually the first time they’ve been involved in a wreck, or the first time they’ve been injured due to someone else’s negligence. They’re scared about their future and they don’t know the next steps they should take. By the time that meeting is done, they’ll know that: 1) I’m part of a great team that will be working hard for them; and 2) it’s going to be okay. Mainly, I try to put people at ease.

What Our Clients Say About Randell...

"From the first day I walked in there, I felt like I was in the right place. They really cared about me, and I won't forget that."

-A. Gordan, Actual Client

Lawyering is something I’ve grown up around. I’m a fourth-generation attorney in Charleston. I come from a family of lawyers. My dad is an attorney, and my great uncles were attorneys. My great-grandfather came from a family of farmers and then he became a lawyer. I’m married to a lawyer whose parents and grandfather are also lawyers. I guess you could say it is generational lawyering.

When I was really young, I’d go to my dad’s law firm. I was blown away by the fact that they had free soft drinks. Over time, I started going to the docket hearings. I’d sit in the back and see how everything worked. I didn’t have any “aha” moment, but being a lawyer was always something I thought I’d enjoy and excel at, so I aspired to do it.

What have you learned from clients about practicing law?

My clients have taught me patience, and they’ve taught me that it’s not always about the money. A lot of times for my clients, it’s about being heard and feeling like they’ve been treated fairly. What I’ve learned is that everyone wants to feel like they have been given a fair shake.

What is the most satisfying aspect of being a personal injury lawyer?

Before I joined Joye Law Firm, I came from a defense firm. I was working for insurance companies, and I didn’t get much gratification. There wasn’t much “great job” from the client.– Today, I’m dealing with real people. The first case I settled wasn’t even a big case — the client won a couple thousand dollars. At the end she hugged me and started crying. She felt like she had finally gotten some justice and been heard. Helping people is for me a satisfying part of being a lawyer. It’s satisfying to know we can have a positive impact on peoples’ lives.
