A recent product recall may leave a bad taste in your mouth. Dairy Fresh is recalling ice cream packs shipped to 10 states, including South Carolina.
The ice cream distributor is conducting the voluntary recall because the product was packed in the wrong containers. The IGA Brand Vanilla and Chocolate ice cream comes in 1.75-quart boxes that don’t clearly say Heavenly Hash ice cream. Company officials warn this ice cream contains almonds, coconut and soy.
People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to almonds, coconut or soy risk a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product and should avoid it at all costs.
The company is aware of one consumer who experienced an allergic reaction after consuming the product manufactured with the “sell by” date of 08-13-13. The company is not aware of any other complaint or illness to date related to this issue.
If you purchased Dairy Fresh products, look for the plant code of 3783. The company also is recalling products with sell-by dates between 6-08-13 and 8-27-13.
Recall procedures are also underway in North Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.
Take Recall Seriously
Any product recall is not to be taken lightly. When a company makes a decision to recall a product it deems to be dangerous or defective, it is doing the right thing. However, the company also knows it could face much public scrutiny and potential legal liability.
If a recall is done properly, it’s likely that the company will not face additional legal problems beyond the potential harm to consumers who have already used its products. However, not all recalls are carried out properly.
