The holiday season can sometimes be a busy and overwhelming time. We may easily get wrapped up with party planning, gift buying and other tasks on our holiday lists. With all of this activity, we may lose sight of the true spirit of the season.
However, if you take a step back, you will find that it can be highly rewarding to give your time and/or resources to those who are less fortunate during the holidays (and throughout the year).
At Joye Law Firm, we are proud to give back to the communities we serve. Many years ago, we created Joye in the Community as a way to support our friends and neighbors. If you would like to join us in getting involved with the community this holiday season, you will find many opportunities available to you in the Charleston area.
You can start by going to the following sites for information:
- VolunteerMatch
VolunteerMatch is a non-profit organization that partners with local businesses and charities. It connects people with opportunities to use their time and skill to support a good cause. Sewing clothes and blankets for newborns and driving cancer patients to their treatment sessions are among the many volunteer opportunities that this website currently lists. If you want to get involved this holiday season, but you do not know where to go or what to do, VolunteerMatch should point you in the right direction. - Create The Good
Create The Good is an AARP-established and supported organization. Like VolunteerMatch, the site connects people with opportunities to give back to people in their community. You can sign up for the organization’s monthly newsletter and receive notices when new chances to volunteer come up in Charleston or a nearby community. - Harvest Hope
Too many people in South Carolina will not have their basic needs met this holiday season. This is where organizations like Harvest Hope can play a vital role. The organization started in Columbia in 1981. Today, it feeds the hungry in 20 counties in South Carolina. If you would like to get involved, you can donate money, food or your time as a volunteer. - American Red Cross
Emergency situations do not take a rest for the holiday season. The American Red Cross always needs volunteers to help people during these emergencies or to participate in events such as blood drives.
Additionally, the South Carolina Information Highway (SCIWAY) has put together an extremely useful reference list of charities and organizations that operate in different regions in South Carolina. Whether you want to get involved in Charleston, Columbia, Florence, Myrtle Beach, Orangeburg, Summerville or anywhere else in South Carolina, you should find available opportunities through this site.
The holidays are full of gifts and parties. However, at Joye Law Firm, we encourage you to share the spirit of giving, get involved in your community and – above all – have a fun, safe and joyous time.
