Rosewood Art & Music Festival

Farmville

Farmville is an annual family-friendly farm festival in Columbia, South Carolina. Children will learn about farm animals, farm machinery, and the fresh produce that keeps us healthy. Run for Our Troops

The annual Run for Our Troops 5K race event in Columbia, South Carolina is the perfect way to celebrate patriotism, pay respect and show gratitude for our troops, remember the tragic events of 9/11, and get in a great workout. This year, the 5th Annual Run for Our Troops race will be held on in the evening of September 11th. The event is suitable for families and children.

Cost & Registration Info: The event costs $25 to run without a T-shirt, and $30 to run with a T-shirt. Online registration will close at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 10, 2016. On-site registration will also be available on race day beginning at 2:00 p.m. Acceptable forms of payment include credit cards, debit cards, cash, and checks.

Grandparents Day

National Grandparents Day is on September 11, 2016 this year. Grandparents in the United States and throughout the world often play a unique role in a child’s life, and according to the U.S. Census Bureau, at least 2.6 million grandparents in the U.S. are responsible for the basic needs of children living with them under the age of 18.

To show appreciation for grandparents in Columbia, South Carolina and surrounding areas, the EdVenture Children’s Museum will be hosting a Grandparents Day event. On Grandparents Day, children will be able to get their grandparents into the museum for free, and a number of fun activities that children can complete with their grandparents will be set up throughout the museum.

Epworth Food Truck Rodeo

Everybody loves a great food truck. And this September, you can explore a number of the best food trucks in Columbia at the Epworth Food Truck Rodeo. This “rodeo” is a family fundraiser event to raise money for the Epworth Children’s Home. The Children’s Home is also asking for donations to ensure that all of the children are able to get a meal from a food truck of their choice.

In addition to the food trucks – which will offer a variety of tasty cuisine – there will also be a large space for picnicking with friends and family, music, and games.

Columbia’s Greek Festival

Columbia’s Greek Festival is almost here! This exciting, 30th annual event hosted by the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Cathedral should not be missed. At this festival, you’ll get a chance to experience Greek culture first hand and enjoy Greek music, food, drink, art, and even an opportunity to learn more about the country of Greece.

Food items at the event – which are many festival goers’ favorite part – include a number of al a carte items, Greek style chicken, keftedes, lamb, souvlaki, baklava ice cream sundaes, spanakopita, raspberry pasta, and much, much more!

CMA Jazz on Main

The annual Columbia Museum of Art (CMA) Jazz on Main event is scheduled to take place mid-September, 2016. This exciting night will feature some of the best in musical talent, including Maria Howell, Noel Freidline, and Joe Gransden in a tribute to Nat King Cole, Nancy Wilson, and Frank Sinatra. From piano to vocals, this is a night not to be missed.

Guided Walking Tour: Civil War Battle at Congaree Creek

The Civil War Battle at Congaree Creek was a four-hour, action packed battle that occurred in February of 1865 in South Columbia. If you are a history buff and want to learn more about the Civil War Battle of Congaree Creek, the guided walking tour, sponsored by the City of Cayce, the River Alliance, and the 12,000 Year History Park Walking Group, is a wonderful opportunity to do just that. The event is more suitable for adults and teens, although children are welcome.

Carrie Underwood is one of the most iconic women in country music today. Skirmishes for Lexington

The Skirmishes for Lexington is an event to commemorate and reenact the Civil War actions that took place in and around Lexington during February through April of 1865. The event will feature actual skirmishes – episodes of reenactment fighting – between the Federal and Confederate forces. In addition to the skirmishes, there will be speakers discussing the history of South Carolina and the civil war, demonstrations, and more. This event is not just for history buffs; people of all ages are welcome to attend, and there will even be children’s activities available, too.

Time: Battles on Saturday and Sunday will start at 1:30
