Tour de Round O

Tour de Round O cycling event benefits Bethlehem Baptist Church and the Coastal/Summerville Cyclists. 100 Mile Century Ride, 64 Mile Metric Century Ride and 35 Mile Course Ride in Round O.

Turtle Trek

South Carolina’s Aquarium’s inaugural 5K run and kids’ fun run. The Turtle Trek will raise awareness for Sea Turtle Recovery, a new exhibit opening in spring 2017 and the Aquarium’s conservation initiative. Join the sunset beach run starting from Isle of Palms County Park at 6pm, and enjoy an exciting After Party at The Windjammer. Registration includes race entry, technical T-shirt and After Party access.

Cost: $40 for 5K and $20 for Kids’ Fun Run, members receive a $5 discount per regularly priced ticket.


Barrier Island 5K Run/Hike

The Barrier Island 5K Run (or Hike) is a four-year tradition at St. Christopher Camp and Conference Center. All proceeds from the 5K are allocated to the Barrier Island Local Outreach Program, which is a not-for-profit educational service for students of both public and private schools. The program provides children k-12 an opportunity to experience nature firsthand in a unique and interesting way, guiding children through astronomy, biology, conservation, botany, and more.

This year’s 5K run/hike is dog friendly, so bring your pup! The race is also kid and family friendly. Make sure to register before race day!

Event: Barrier Island 5K Run/Hike

Date: September 17, 2016

Location: St. Christopher Camp and Conference Center, 2810 Seabrook Island Road, Johns Island, SC

Time: 9:00 a.m.

Cost: The cost to register for the race is $27.87 for adults, and $17.31 for all participants under age 18. Remember, all proceeds are donated to the barrier Island Local Outreach Program. Registration closes September 16, 2016 at 8:00 p.m.

Charleston Scottish Games

The Scottish Society of Charleston, Inc. is a non-profit organization that seeks to retain and promote Scottish heritage. As such, the organization hosts the annual Charleston Scottish Games, and this year will be the 45th year of said games. Scottish or not, this event is an extremely fun way to spend the day, as well as culturally informative. The games showcases drumming competitions, athletic competitions, dancing competitions, wrestling, dancing, and children’s games. As such, this event is perfect for the whole family, or a great way to spend an afternoon with friends.

Event: Charleston Scottish Games

Date: Thursday, September 15, 2016 through Sunday, September 18, 2016

Each day will feature a different event. You can view the whole schedule here.

Location: Events will occur at different locations throughout Charleston. The kick off for the event (Thursday, September 15 at 6:30 p.m.) will be held at Gage Hall, 4 Archdale Street, Charleston, SC 29401. The event is a scotch whiskey tasting.

Cost: Games tickets are $20 for adults when purchased in advance, and $25 the day of. Children ages six through 12 are $5, and children under six are free. The scotch whiskey tasting event is $35.

Charleston Water Sportsfest

Do you love water sports? Or have you been dying to try a water sport as a beginner? Whatever your ability level, the Charleston Water SportsFest is a must-go to. Hosted by the Charleston Area Sports Commission, the SportsFest is seven days of pure joy on the water. The SportsFest has four main features, including competitive sports (including a stand-up paddle boarding competition), recreational sports, instructional activities (water sports instructions for all learners, beginner and advanced!), and leisure activities (including tours and exhibitions). This is a great opportunity to say farewell to summer, spend time in the sun, and take in all that Charleston has to offer.

At the Money Fair, attendees will learn the basics of making smart financial decisions in order to better manage one’s money and one’s life. In addition to money advice from financial gurus and experts, fairgoers will also enjoy food and giveaways. Even if you think you’ve learned all there is to know about balancing a checkbook, this event is worth checking out.

Taste of Charleston

The 36th annual Taste of Charleston event is scheduled to take place this September, 2016. This event, which is one of the most popular happenings of the year in Charleston, is a showcasing of the culinary delights and creations of some of the most talented chefs in South Carolina. Held at the historic Boone Hall Plantation, Taste of Charleston invites 40 of the area’s best restaurants to offer everything from food to wine to cooking demonstrations and more.

If you love food, the Taste of Charleston is not be to be missed! This once-a-year opportunity is as enjoyable as it is tasty. In addition to plenty of edible wares, there will also be live music performed by Cowboy Mouth.

Kids are welcome at this event, but please leave your pets at home! The event is outside, and will be held regardless of what Mother Nature’s up to.

Gatsby Gala

The 3rd annual Gatsby Gala is right around the corner, so if you’re interested, the time to get your tickets is now. This event, which is held to benefit the Lowcountry Orphan Relief, is sponsored by Charleston Rental Properties and South Carolina Federal Credit Union. Attendance at the Gatsby Gala is a fantastic way to support a local charity while also enjoying food, dance, live entertainment, beer, wine, and a silent auction. Tickets are on sale now!

Lowcountry Orphan Relief is a non-profit organization that seeks to provide services, such as food or clothing, to children who are neglected or abused.

Wine, Women & Shoes

Wine, Women & Shoes has gained popularity across America in the past decade, hosting fashion events with the aim of raising money for their charity partners. To date, Wine, Women & Shoes has raised more than $40,000,000 for nonprofit organizations across the world. This year, a Wine, Women & Shoes event will be held in Charleston. The event will feature wine (of course), a best-in-shoes contest, hors d’oeuvres, designer shopping, and a fashion show. This 4th annual event in Charleston will be held to benefit Florence Crittenton Programs of South Carolina.

Florence Crittenton Programs of South Carolina help pregnant teens with medical care, parenting skills, counseling, housing needs, education, and more.
