Farmers Market

Stop on by the Charleston Farmers Market (CFM) on Calhoun Street, between King Street and Meeting Street, any Saturday morning, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The CFM is dedicated to supporting Lowcountry farmers, growers, prepared and packaged food workers, local artisans, crafters, live performers, and many other community groups of Charleston. Over the years, the CFM has been recognized and awarded, including being the recipient of the Three Sisters Award from the Charleston Save the Community Committee, and was ranked by Travel & Leisure Magazine as one of the top 10 Best Farmers Markets in the Nation. You will enjoy an expansive assortment of local produce, plants, herbs and cut flowers, breakfast and lunch vendors, and plenty of arts and crafts, all topped off with live entertainment. Sunset at Fort Sumter

Experience Fort Sumter as you never have before while the sun sets over the Charleston Harbor. This incredible tour of one of America’s famous, historical landmarks takes place aboard the luxury of a three-story yacht, combining a relaxing cruise with a must-do historical tour. See Fort Sumter in a new light, snack on light appetizers and enjoy beverages from the cash bar and docking at the fort. Guided by a professional from the National Park Service, the tour is in-depth and enlightening, covering all aspects of the place where the first shots of the American Civil War were fired. The fort affords visitors some of the best views of the Charleston Harbor and the Atlantic Ocean. Once the tour is over, attendees of the tour will get back on the yacht for more snacks and beverages while watching the sunset over the harbor.

King of Pops Free Yoga in the Park

Taught by the talented Beth Cosi, founder of Bendy Brewski Yoga, in collaboration with King of Pops, King of Pops Free Yoga in the Park will take place at the beautiful Riverfront Park again. Learn yoga techniques every first and third Wednesday of the month, an all levels class that people of all ages can enjoy. Bring your yoga mat, your friends or family, or even your kids, and get your “ohm” on during the hour-long class of guided stretching, breathing, and strengthening exercises. After the class, treat yourself to an infamous King of Pops popsicle (the class is free, but you will need some pocket cash to buy a popsicle!). Starlight Cinema

Pack up the kids, some beach chairs, some blankets, and make it a fun-for-all night out for the entire family. Enjoy a free movie under the stars every Wednesday night, courtesy of Freshfield Village, known as Kiawah Island’s premier shopping destination. The August free movie series will kick off August 3rd at 8:30 p.m. with Cool Runnings, followed by August 10th at 8:30 with Pan. On August 17th, the Good Dinosaur will show, and August 24th, Shaun the Sheep will be featured. The month of free movies under the stars will wrap up on August 31st with Zootopia. All showings start at 8:30. Starlight Cinema can be found on the grounds of Freshfield Village, just a quick 30-minute jaunt from Downtown Charleston. Whether you live in the local area or are visiting for a few days, this is great free fun for the family.

Sunset Wine Tasting Cruises Aboard the Schooner Pride

Wine lovers will love this incredible escape from reality, aboard the 84-foot Schooner Pride as they tour Charleston Harbor during the sunset hours in a luxurious wine and hors d’oeuvres setting. Four to five wines, which are hand selected from Executive Wines’ experts at Ben Arnold Beverage Company, will be featured for attendees to sample as they enjoy the phenomenal sight of the sun setting over the spectacular Charleston Harbor. Since you cannot have wine without cheese, local cheese and meats specialty shop, Goat, Cow, and Sheep, provides an array of delicious hors d’oeuvres on this cruise, as well. The Sunset Tasting Cruises Aboard the Schooner Pride start at 6:30 p.m. on the first and third Wednesday of August and last two hours as the Schooner Pride makes its way through Charleston Harbor, with views of several different historic points of interest.

Humans should not be the only ones who are allowed to enjoy a relaxing happy hour to shake off the stress of everyday life! That is why Yappy Hour is a two-for-one place to be for those who like to spend time with their pups. Dog lovers can bring their favorite furry best friend to the dog park at James Island County Park for beverages, which will be available for purchase, and live music after a long day at the office. Let your dog socialize and get some energy out as you meet with other dog lovers and listen to tunes from party favorite, Danny May & The Keesh. Do not fret, as Yappy Hour runs all the way until 8 p.m. for those who cannot make it right at 4 p.m. when it starts.

Addicted to Love

The Footloose-esque musical, Addicted to Love, will be featured by 34 West Theater Company this August. Unwind and enjoy the excitement and music while you sip on wine, champagne cocktails, coke floats, and munch on savory snacks. People of all ages will feel alive as they watch the faculty of Arden High “go Footloose” in this romantic-comedy musical that makes you want to get up and dance along. The musical soundtrack brings back 80s classics from Cyndi Lauper to Robert Palmer, with high energy that will time-warp you back to 1983. Be sure to bring extra money for the fabulous array of drinks and savory snacks that will be available for purchase. Do you love murder mysteries? Be a part of the fun – and you might even be the next victim! – as the murder mystery, Tickled to Death, unravels right in front of you. The Black Fedora Comedy Mystery Theatre hosts a brand-new comic whodunit that is wacky and witty. Your mind will spin as more and more mystery guests become murder victims as a harried henchman-for-hire takes them out one by one. The silly serial killer will have you wondering if you will be next as you attempt to figure out who, what, when, where, and why. In the end, after the a la carte appetizers, desserts, and drinks, you will leave the theatre Tickled to Death.

There is nothing like the combination of cars, coffee and conversation bright and early on a Saturday morning! This local meet-and-greet for car and motorcycle enthusiasts is sure to be a revved-up event. The Charleston Cars & Coffee will once again gather at the Mount Pleasant Towne Center, which is located in front of the well-known Atlanta Bread Company. Come rain or shine and bring your antique, classic, and uniquely designed hot rods and socialize with other fellow car aficionados. A unique car fanatic crowd shows up each week to discuss and plan potential future car-related Charleston area events. The more people hear about the event, the more show up, so be sure to share it on Facebook. Whether you are driving your hot rod from out of town, or are a local who enjoys the company of other car lovers, this is the event to be at.

Charleston Riverdogs Baseball Home Games

For the first time in 11 seasons, the Charleston Riverdogs have made it all the way to the playoffs! It happened on June 14th, when the Riverdogs clinched a 3-0 victory over the Augusta GreenJackets, earning the Southern Division first half title and their official spot in the South Atlantic League playoffs with a 42-27 first half record. There will be 14 home games in August, as the Riverdogs take on the Greenville Drive, the Rome Braves, the Columbia Fireflies, and the Hagerstown Suns. So, be sure to make it out and support your home team at “The Joe” this summer!
