Fireworks at Broadway at the Beach | Myrtle Beach, SC
After a sun packed day of beach and sand, end the night with a fireworks display to keep the lights shining bright over the Myrtle Beach sky. Watch the sound and light display of the fireworks as they light up the sky over Lake Broadway at Myrtle Beach. Held every Tuesday and Friday through the summer season, some Saturday and Sunday shows have also been added to the show schedule.

Boathouse Summer Concert Series
If you are looking for some good food, fun, and music to top off your summer weekend, look no further than the Boathouse Sunday Summer Concert Series. Featuring musical performances by both local and national acts, the Boathouse is the perfect place to get the most out of your weekend, while jamming to some of your favorite tunes and enjoying the cool breezes and scenery along the Intracoastal Waterway.
Located in Fantasy Harbor, the Boathouse is a local favorite for cold beer and mixed drinks, served up alongside classic bar food appetizers alongside more upscale menu entrees. Nestled amidst weeping willows and mossy oaks, the Boathouse sits on the banks of the waterway, and provides the perfect backdrop for both indoor and outdoor seating, as well as a volleyball court and outdoor tiki bar. Approachable from both land and water, it is a perfect way to spend an afternoon, and the Summer Concert Series has become a legendary part of the Myrtle Beach summer scene.
All concerts are free and scheduled performers for this year’s Sunday concert series include Saving Abel, Cowboy Mouth, Atlas Road Crew, and Edward McCain, and get your tickets early for the annual annual JerryFest held on August 21 which features the music of the Grateful Dead, with loyal, local Deadheads returning year after year.
Carolina Country Music Fest: Jun. 10, 2016
The Carolina Country Music Festival is back to entertain the Grand Strand for its second year, promising a lineup of familiar stars as well as up-and-coming performers that is sure to thrill any country music fan. Beginning Thursday, June 9, 2016 with the McDonald’s pre-festival kick-off concert with Gary Allen, the show features headline performances on Friday, June 10 by Keith Urban, followed by Tim McGraw on Saturday, June 11, and culminating with the Georgia Satellites on Sunday, June 12. Featuring two stages and more than 36 different performers, the event will be held on the oceanfront in downtown Myrtle Beach, running non-stop from 1:00 pm to 11:30pm each day.
Wristbands are required for the event, and purchases are non-refundable. While children under the age of 10 are admitted free, adult admission prices range from $39.99 for a McDonald’s pre-concert ticket, a general admission three day festival pass for $189, a VIP upgrade pass for $219 which include tickets to Thursday night’s concert, to a super VIP pass for $1,229 that includes platform viewing, air conditioned tent seating, and open bar and appetizers. A must-see for any country music fan, the event offers an unforgettable opportunity to hear the music you love, while enjoying the Myrtle Beach scenery, making for a summer to remember.
Color Burst 5K
Whether you are an experienced runner, a novice looking to improve your skills, or a spectator who enjoys the sense of excitement and camaraderie surrounding these types of event, the 2016 Myrtle Beach Color Burst 5K offers something to please everyone. Far from the normal run-of-the-mill race experience, the CB5K blends color, music, and sound to present a 5K that is a celebration of the community while providing all the thrill, challenge, and competition runners and their fans crave.
The Myrtle Beach CB5K will held on Sunday, June 5, 2016 at the TicketReturn.com stadium, which is home to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, the Class A affiliate for the Chicago Cubs. Registration opens at 1:00 pm, which is when the fun begins. In addition to the participants, part of what makes the CB5K race so unique is the way is combines music and art with athleticism, and dance parties before, during, and after the event keep the focus on fun while promoting healthy living habits for both the body and mind. During registration, the paint dance party begins, with runners entering service stations at 1K intervals where they will be splashed with safe, water-based paints of various colors, resulting in an eventual rainbow mix of colors. Runners will begin the race at 2:00 pm and are expected to cross the finish line between 3:15 and 4:00 pm. After a quick cleanup, it is off to watch the Pelicans take on the Potomac Nationals, with more music and dancing throughout the day. Event registration ranges from $30 to $40, while runners under the age of 12 participate for free.
Movies Under the Stars
The Market Common hosts some of the best shopping, food, and entertainment Myrtle Beach has to offer, while the grounds and parks surrounding the area play host to local festivals and events throughout the years. In addition to carriage rides, a Saturday farmer’s market, and strolling performers, the venue brings back the Movies Under the Stars nights. Featuring family favorites with a few PG-13 movies that will appeal to an older crowd, the movies are shown outside on the big screen in Valor Park, with plenty of lawn space for locals and visitors to stretch out on blankets and lawn chairs while enjoying food and beverages from local vendors.
This year’s Movies Under the Stars begin Friday, June 3, with a showing of the animated film, An American Tail. It continues each Friday night throughout the summer month, with other offerings including more animated favorite such as Tangled, Minions, and Wall-E, recently released feature films such as Jurassic World and Star Wars: The Force Awakens, as well as iconic classics such as Matilda, the Wizard of Oz, and Mary Poppins, and the movie that scared everyone out of the water, the original Jaws. Admission to Movies Under the Stars is free, with showings scheduled to start at roughly 9:00 pm.
Sun Fun Festival
After a five-year hiatus, the iconic Myrtle Beach Sun Fun Festival is back, and promises to be better than ever. A long time Myrtle Beach tradition, the Festival moves back to the beach after being previously relocated to Market Commons, with events taking place at various locations both along Ocean Boulevard and on the oceanfront in the heart of downtown Myrtle Beach. Sponsored by Native Suns, the Festival features three days of live music and entertainment from local artists and performers, in addition to other activities such as face painting and crafts for the kids, Shag dance lessons, mascot appearances, and fireworks.
The Sun Fun Festival kicks off on Friday, June 3, at 6:45 pm with the crowning of the Sun Fun King and Queen, which will be emceed by local celebrity Diane DeVaughn Stokes, followed at 7:15 pm. by performances by the Legacy Motown Revue and a concert at 9:30 pm by the Golden Knights Revue. The fun continues Saturday, June 4, beginning at 10:00 am with the Sun Fun Festival Parade, featuring local marching bands, floats, and area mascots. Over the course of the day, there will be musical performances by groups such as Legends in Concert, the Swash Tones, and the Swinging Medallions, followed by a fireworks show at 10:00 pm Saturday night from the 2nd Avenue Pier. The event winds up Sunday, with musical guests and entertainment from noon to 6:00 pm. Admission to the events is free, and vendors will be on hand offering food and souvenirs, while local establishments run food and drink specials as well as sales on your favorite beach apparel.
The Carolina Opry’s LIGHT Laser Extravaganza Shows
The Calvin Gilmore Theatre is a beloved Myrtle Beach institution that never disappoints in terms of bringing top notch entertainment to the Grand Strand area. Each year, the venue brings lavish productions that never fail to wow locals and tourists alike, and this summer’s lineup of shows proves to be no exception.
Premiering this year at the theatre after a one night only viewing in New York City, The Carolina Opry Light Laser Extravaganza has been hailed by critics as an unforgettable mix of light and music that leaves audiences exhilarated, promising to be an experience you and your family won’t soon forget.
The show features the same high quality lasers used on national tours with musical acts such as Pink Floyd and Madonna, while offering musical accompaniments to suit every taste, with themed shows including Classic Rock, the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Praise, Family Fun, and Holiday. Show times are scheduled at 4:00 pm and 9:30 pm on various weekdays and Saturdays and seating is by general admission. Adult ticket prices are $16.15 including tax, with children’s tickets are available for $12.90. The Native Sons Salt Games 2016
Coming to the oceanfront in downtown Myrtle Beach the first weekend in June, the Native Sons Salt Games promise a competitive weekend of fun for water-related sports enthusiasts. The main grounds for the event will be the old Pavilion Amusement Park site between 8th and 9th Avenue north, but those attending should come ready for competitions that will take participants and spectators alike onto the sand and into the water. Featured competitions include a beachfront lifeguard yoga challenge, a 5K Beach Bum fun run, a Ben and Jerry’s kids run, the beach brawl wrestling tournament, paddleboard and surfing competitions, skateboard contests, volleyball tournaments, and even a Summer Dog Challenge for your four legged friends.
Event dates and times for the native Sons Salt Games are Saturday, June 4, 2016 from 8:00am to 7:00pm, and Sunday, June 5th, from 8:00 am to 5:00pm. The event is free to attend, with parking available for a fee at the Pavilion parking garage and at metered locations throughout the Ocean Boulevard area. Food and beverage vendors will be on hand, and visitors are encouraged to come out and support their local favorites. Proceeds from the event benefit the Surf Dreams Foundation, which provides less fortunate children with surfboards, wetsuits, and surf lessons. Guests are invited to donate any surfing gear they no longer use, as well as boards for their own kids to experience the thrill of catching a wave alongside more experienced surfers during Saturday’s events.
Art in the Park
If the idea of spending a summer afternoon strolling through a wooded park setting while viewing works of art and craft projects by a variety of talented local artist sounds like the perfect way to spend a weekend afternoon, the Myrtle Beach’s Art in the Park program is for you. Presented by the Waccamaw Arts and Crafts Guild and held on various weekends throughout the year, Art in the Park offers a way for locals and visitors alike to window shop and admire art that is individually crafted and locally grown, comprising both traditional and modern types of media.
In its 44th year in the area, Art in the Park is held on different dates throughout the year both at Chapin Park on Kings Highway in downtown Myrtle Beach, as well as in Valor Park in the Market Common. A typical event features roughly 40 artists, and is scheduled over the summer months for Saturday, June 11th, and Sunday June 12th at Chapin Park, with artwork available for both viewing and purchase from 10:00 am to 4:00pm each day. General admission is free, while each artist sets the price for his or her own original creations. Items available for sale include paintings, drawings, and photo prints, many of which feature local landscapes, woodworking, precious metals, and pottery, as well as outdoor sculptures, household fixtures and furnishings, and men’s and women’s clothing, jewelry and accessories.
33rd Annual National Retired Military Golf Classic
Combining a week of friendly competition and camaraderie for retired military veterans and the general public, the 33rd Annual National Retired Military Golf Classic is coming to Myrtle Beach Tuesday, May 31st through Saturday, June 4th, 2016. Competitions will be hosted by some of the area’s best golf courses, including the Myrtle Beach National (South Creek and West), Pine Lakes, Myrtlewood (Pine Hills), Wild Wing, World Tour and Burning Ridge.
The event kicks off on Tuesday with open registration from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm at Myrtle Beach National, followed by an icebreaker mixer at 6:00 at the Bay Watch Resort. Golfing competitions for both men and women run the remainder of the week, with Shotgun start times at 8:00 am at the various courses each day. In addition to competitions, the Golf Classic will host an evening of entertainment at the Alabama Theatre on Wednesday night at 7:30 pm, before heading back to MB National on Friday and Saturday for awards ceremonies, offering $100,000 in cash and prizes.
Entry fees for the event are $325 for men and $280 for women, and include course fees, the use of a golf cart, Classic golf shirt, men’s or women’s hats or visors, souvenir golf towel, commemorative gift, and gift certificate or admission ticket to the Alabama Theatre. Registration will be on a first come, first served basis.
Larger-Than-Life LEGO® Brick Sculpture
There is extra incentive for families to visit beautiful Brookgreen Gardens in Murrell’s Inlet this summer. In addition to being named as one of the premier public gardens in the country, as well as home to more than 1,400 sculptures by over 350 talented local and national artists, Brookgreen is hosting “Nature Connects”, an exhibit created by Sean Kenney, a renowned artist and children’s author, which features 12 LEGO® brick sculptures that utilize more than half a million of the familiar multicolored LEGO® bricks to bring nature to life.
In addition to interpretive panels that help children develop a relationship with nature while promoting conservation, the installation features fun and educational activities, including a sculpture building contest, scavenger hunts, and over 30,000 LEGO® bricks for children and adults alike to play with during their visit. Sculpture contest winners will have their works displayed at Brookgreen Gardens throughout the summer months.
Entry to Nature Connects is included with your regular admission ticket, which are valid for return trips seven consecutive days after purchase. Brookgreen Gardens is open seven days a week from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Admission prices for adults aged 13 through 64 is $16, and $8 for children between the ages of three and 12. Children three and under are admitted free, while guests 65 and older receive a $2 discount.
