Description of Accident: The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal hit-and-run that occurred on Sunday on I-26 near mile marker 83 at approximately 1:10 p.m. According to the troopers, a white 4-door pickup truck with a utility trailer traveling westward on I-26 lost a tire that crossed the median and struck another vehicle traveling eastbound. The driver of the car hit by the tire, a 63-year-old man from Nichols, S.C. passed away from injuries sustained during the collision. The driver of the truck fled the scene, and the Highway Patrol is seeking information from the public to identify the vehicle and driver.
