What Inspired You to Become an Attorney?
Believe it or not, my path to becoming an attorney started while I was serving in the South Carolina Army National Guard.
While deployed, I knew that I was at a time in my life where I needed to decide what my ultimate career path should be. Lo and behold, that path was revealed to me while I was driving a vehicle with my squad when I noticed my team leader had fallen asleep.. While not typically envious, I decided I shouldn’t be the only one awake and I ever so slightly tapped the brakes of our up-armored HMMWV, sending him sliding forward into the floorboard, leading to his getting stuck due to his body armor. It turns out, my team leader had not been wearing his seatbelt. When we returned to base, I volunteered for staff duty to avoid any untoward repercussions, and while at the command center began casually researching the rules and regulations surrounding seatbelt requirements. I wrote my team leader a detailed counseling statement explaining that had he been wearing his seatbelt, he would never have ended up in his unfortunate position in the floorboard. What began as a joke quickly turned into something much bigger, as I realized I genuinely enjoyed digging through laws, regulations, and policies to solve problems and support an argument. When I returned to the States, I began researching the legal career in detail and decided that a career of utilizing existing rules and regulations to assist others was the path for me.
After law school, I began my legal career on the defense side, representing insurance companies, businesses, and government entities in a wide variety of complex litigation matters. While the experience gave me invaluable insight into how defendants evaluate and defend claims, I soon realized that my passion wasn’t protecting large corporations. I found far greater satisfaction helping regular people, like the ones I know and grew up with, who needed someone in their corner when facing big business and their insurance companies. That’s what ultimately led me to personal injury and workers’ compensation law.
What Is Your Client Service Philosophy?
Communication is the foundation of every successful attorney-client relationship.
I want every client to feel comfortable enough to tell me the whole story, even the difficult parts. The more I understand about your injuries, your daily struggles, and how an accident has affected your life, the better I can advocate for you. Building a solid foundation of trust from the very beginning allows us to work as a team toward the same goal.
I believe clients deserve honest answers, regular updates, and an attorney who is genuinely available to listen. Whether we’re discussing your medical treatment, preparing for litigation, or negotiating with an insurance company, I want you to know exactly where your case stands and what to expect next. My job isn’t just to handle legal issues, it’s to make sure you feel supported throughout the process.
