Texting while driving is a dangerous activity. And people at the University of South Carolina experienced this reality firsthand, thanks to AT&T’s “No Text on Board, It Can Wait” campaign, ABC Columbia reported.

AT&T invited students to go on a 3-D driving excursion using a simulator. During this ride, drivers receive texts on a smartphone attached to the simulator. This way, they can fully understand the risks involved when they’re distracted by texts while their vehicle is in motion.

The simulator made its point to many of the drivers who took part in the demonstration. This is good news, because too many people die or are severely injured due to distracted driving. The National Safety Council estimates that more than 100,000 automobile collisions occur because of texting each year.

AT&T’s “It Can Wait” campaign is designed to educate the public, especially young drivers, and persuade people not to text while operating a motor vehicle.
