At Joye Law Firm Injury Lawyers, we believe in the power of higher education to enrich lives and the value of the college experience. That’s why we’ve provided nearly $250,000 in college scholarships to graduating high school seniors since 2006.
This year, we were thrilled to give away six $2,000 scholarships to students planning on attending four-year universities or institutes of higher learning in the fall of 2022. We also presented one $2,000 scholarship to a student planning to attend a Historically Black College or University (HBCU) to further their education.
Students in both categories were required to submit an application containing a creative entry that addressed a topic provided by Joye attorneys, such as “If teens could be elected to the South Carolina House or Senate, what issues facing teens would be among your top legislative priorities?” and “How do you plan to use your education to benefit the community?”
Our selection committee reviewed all entries and selected the seven most notable to receive the scholarship prizes. Winners were announced at each of their respective schools’ year-end awards ceremony, when such ceremonies were held.

- Bregasia Harding, Fort Dorchester High School (plans to attend University of South Carolina)
- Alaysia Woodruff, Goose Creek High School (plans to attend University of South Carolina)
- Carlos Frank, Summerville High School (plans to attend Winthrop University)
- Rivers Cahill, Myrtle Beach High School (plans to attend Coastal Carolina University)
- Kayla Mitchum, Cane Bay High School (plans to attend University of South Carolina)

- Omar Culbreath, Columbia High School (plans to attend Morehouse College)

Inspiring Teacher Prizes
As part of their entries, students were also asked to nominate the teacher who helped or inspired them the most throughout their school career. In addition to being recognized for their hard work and care towards their students, these teachers were rewarded with a $200 cash prize.
