At Joye Law Firm Injury Lawyers, we take pride in serving our community with honesty, professionalism, and compassion. That’s why it’s deeply troubling when cybercriminals impersonate our firm and attempt to scam unsuspecting individuals.
We want to be very clear:
Joye Law Firm will NEVER ask for money, whether you’re a client, prospective client, or a participant in one of our giveaway contests.
If someone contacts you claiming to represent our firm and demands money for legal services, case processing, as a condition for winning a contest, or any other reason, do not be fooled; it is a scam. This includes any message claiming you must send money before we can “help” with a legal matter. That is simply not how we operate. Our firm works on a contingency basis, meaning we only get paid if we recover money for you.
How These Scams Work
Real example of a scam message.
Cyber criminals use sophisticated methods to deceive people, including:
- Phishing Emails or Texts: Messages that appear to be from our firm, using fake email addresses or phone numbers, asking you to click a link or send payment.
- Phone Calls from Fake Representatives: Scammers may impersonate attorneys or staff, using high-pressure tactics to get you to pay or provide payments or personal information.
- Fraudulent Social Media Accounts: Fake pages promoting giveaways or pretending to be our official firm profile.
- Online Giveaway Scams: Some individuals have been contacted by criminals claiming they’ve won a prize or contest hosted by our firm, but must “pay a fee” to claim it. This is not us. Joye Law Firm would never request money from a contest winner.
What We Will NEVER Do
- We will never ask for payments from firm clients. We work on a contingency basis and only get paid a lawyer’s fee if we get money for you. That fee is taken directly from your verdict or settlement, so you’d never make a direct payment to our law firm, even if we win your case.
- We will never request payment or banking information for you to claim a giveaway prize.
- We will never pressure or threaten you into sending money.
- We will never communicate through unofficial or unverified accounts.
- We will never handle a legal matter outside of our core practice areas of personal injury and workers’ compensation law. If you are contacted by someone claiming to be from Joye Law Firm about a will, trust, business matter, family law, or other non-injury case, you are likely dealing with a scammer.
One of Our Attorneys Was Targeted
In a recent instance, a scammer went so far as to impersonate one of our attorneys by name, asking for money to assist with a supposed legal issue. This is a serious identity theft matter, and we are working with the authorities to pursue those responsible. Again, our attorneys represent injured South Carolinians and would never request payments under any circumstances.
How to Protect Yourself
- Verify Before You Act: If you receive a message that seems suspicious, contact us directly using our verified contact information from our official website.
- Don’t Click or Reply: Never click on links, open attachments, or respond to messages asking for money or personal data.
- Report It: Let us know if you’ve been contacted. We’re working with the authorities to stop these scams. You should also contact your local police department and the SC Attorney General’s office to report the crime.
- Look for Red Flags: Poor grammar, misspellings, urgent language, unofficial email addresses, and requests for gift cards or wire transfers are all warning signs.
