Description of Accident: A fatal pedestrian crash occurred in downtown Columbia at the intersection of Gervais Street and Park Street. A 29-year-old man, suspected of driving under the influence, ran a stoplight and struck a man and his girlfriend as they were in the area getting food. Investigators report that the man attempted to push his girlfriend out of harm’s way before both were hit. The man died from his injuries, while the woman remains in critical condition with injuries including broken ribs and spinal fractures. The driver has been charged, and the incident remains under investigation.
