Description of Accident: On Christmas Eve, a fatal two-car collision claimed the life of a 77-year-old Columbia man on Main Street. Traveling eastbound, he was struck head-on by a westbound vehicle crossing the center line around 1:03 a.m. Despite being transported to a local hospital, the victim succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the other vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The South Congaree Police Department and Lexington County Coroner’s Office are jointly investigating the incident, seeking clarity on the circumstances surrounding this tragic event that unfolded on a somber Christmas Eve night.
