The Omnibus Adult Protection Act (S.C. Code Ann. § 43-35-5 et seq.)  identifies “mandated reporters” who must notify authorities of suspected harm. This includes all nursing home staff, doctors, nurses, social workers, and law enforcement officers. Any of these professionals who fail to report suspected neglect or physical injury can face criminal misdemeanor charges and professional licensing penalties.
