Description of Accident: Two people were killed and 26 others injured in a catastrophic 14-vehicle crash on I-95 over the Combahee River late Thursday afternoon. The pileup began just after 4:20 p.m. during a heavy thunderstorm that reduced visibility and contributed to a high-speed chain reaction crash.

A second collision occurred moments later on the same bridge span, involving six tractor-trailers and six additional cars or trucks. One driver was ejected off the bridge into the river but managed to swim to safety.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol and multiple emergency agencies are continuing their investigation into the wreck and the weather conditions that contributed to this severe multi-vehicle accidents.
