Meet Ken Harrell

As the managing partner of the Joye Law Firm, Ken Harrell is both diligent in his law practice and committed to the profession. He joined the firm in 1994 after spending six years as an attorney with a large, well-respected corporate defense firm. With 22 years of experience, he protects the rights of injured South Carolinians, including cases involving workers’ compensation, car accidents, and defective products. Ken also heads up the firm’s mass torts practice.

In addition to his law practice, Ken also is a frequent author and speaker for the South Carolina Bar's continuing legal education program and the South Carolina Workers' Compensation Educational Association. Mr. Harrell serves as the president of Injured Workers Advocates and also has served as the IWA’s vice president as well as chairman of its legislative affairs committee. Ken has been honored as a member of the "Top 100 Trial Lawyers" in South Carolina by the American Trial Lawyers Association.

Ken also is committed to the community and recently established a scholarship in his grandparents’ memory at his former high school. Having grown up in a rural area, he wanted to give back to the school and community that gave him a head start. Family means a lot to Ken, and as a major Red Sox and sports fan in general, he and his father have taken time over the last several years to chase a common dream—to catch a baseball game in each of the major stadiums in the country.

He also has served as a pack leader for the Christ Our King Cub Scouts Pack 470 and coached Little League for various sports for the Mount Pleasant Recreation Department. Currently, he is an active member of the Christ Our King St. Vincent de Paul Charitable Society.

Q: What should I do after my accident?
A: Focus on getting better, and in workers’ compensation cases, try to get back to your job. In the long term, it’s in your best interest to be back at work if at all possible, even though it may affect the total dollar amount of an award. Each case is different, so it’s impossible to estimate a case’s worth at the beginning, but in every case we want you to get the best possible treatment for your injuries to protect your quality of life as well as your rights to compensation.
